Justin is being treated like a king...

Jen here again! First of all, I can´t believe how they are literally treating Justin like a king in Tegus. It´s messed up, really. He doesn´t even have a math or a teaching degree! Grr.
Ok, so I´m making some progress over here in Catacamas: I figured out where the supermarket was and walked to it the other day; I went to two church services (one Sunday and one Wednesday); and one of the other teachers was telling me about a park that I can run at (that I can probably walk to). Yep, reeeeaaaally getting out in the community (that´s sarcastic, but ok I m trying!). Oh yeah, and my host mom showed me how to wash my clothes. Ánd I made some new friends (okay, so they are in third grade and fifth grade, but give me a break over here I´m working on it).
Ok so today was great -- all of us teachers went to one of the students´ farm houses (or something like that) and it was sweet. They have a nice pool and a sweet view -- the place is literally like a retreat center or something it´s so huge. So we had meetings and presentations in the morning (it was so dang hot and all of the teachers are dying and I´m like, `Ok why the heck do girls always have to wear jeans here?!´) Anyway, it still just seems so weird to me that I´m here sitting with all of the other Honduran teachers and listening to these discipline presentations by the principal in Spanish. So after lunch we all go swimming and I beat all the teachers in a swimming race, so they were super impressed. :) Too bad it´s only because most people here barely even know how to swim because no one has a pool! And then some of us played a modified version of water polo (with a football), which was so much fun! So I got to know a lot of the other teachers, which was really good. I think some of us are going to go over to one of their houses on Saturday, which should be fun.
And as long as Justin´s talking about food, I guess I´ll add in my own thoughts. Well, today at the ¨retreat¨ we ate lunch at like 12, then swam, and then they cooked a bunch more food at like 2! And I was like, ¨I´m full we just ate!¨ And all the teachers laughed at me! So I´m not going to go hungry here, and if I come back in a year like 20 pounds heavier, this is why. A typical breakfast for me is beans, fried plantains, and an avocado. I told my host mom that cereal is fine so we´ll see....And dinner is similar -- though I had lasagna the other day, and then another day had french fries with tomato sauce spread on top (no, not ketchup). So that was a little weird, but, honestly, since I´ve been here before the food doesn´t actually seem that strange anymore.
That´s all for now -- I have to prep what I´m going to say for parents´orienation tomorrow!
Ps -- I do have a few photos I need to post...

  1. First, I am super jealous that you are having avocado everyday!! Second, making friends with 3rd and 5th graders isn't bad. I made new friends with a 2 and 4 year old this week. Third, Good luck with parent orientation tomorrow. I am so jealous!
